PPT97: PowerPoint 7.0 Templates Not Installed w/ PowerPoint 97 (168675)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q168675

MORE INFORMATION

The templates in the \Present folder contain the skeleton for a complete presentation that contains several slides. These templates are designed to integrate with the AutoContent Wizard. The templates in the \Designs folder, on the other hand, do not contain presentation outlines and contain only one slide.

SYMPTOMS

If you do a complete installation of PowerPoint 97 from either the PowerPoint 97 or the Microsoft Office 97 compact disc, all of the design templates are totally new. You do not have any of the templates which ship with the previous versions of PowerPoint.

CAUSE

PowerPoint 97 and Microsoft Office 97 do ship with many of the popular PowerPoint templates from previous versions of PowerPoint, but these files are not installed when you install PowerPoint. These templates are located in the following \ValuPack folders on the compact disc:

\Valupack\Template\Present
\Valupack\Template\Designs

RESOLUTION

Choose the appropriate method to use the templates from the \ValuPack folder:

Method 1: Leave Templates on Compact Disc

In Windows Explorer, double-click one of the files in either the \ValuPack\Template\Present or the \ValuPack\Template\Designs folder on the compact disc. PowerPoint will start and create a new presentation based on the template.

The advantage to this method is that it requires no additional hard drive space. The disadvantage is that this method does not integrate the templates in the \ValuPack\Template\Present folder with the AutoContent Wizard.

Method 2: Copy Templates to Your Local Drive

  1. In Windows Explorer, copy the template files from the \ValuPack\Template\Designs folder on the compact disc to the following folder on your hard drive:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\Presentations

NOTE: This assumes that you installed PowerPoint to its default folder.
  2. In Windows Explorer, open the \ValuPack\Template\Present folder.
  3. Double-click the Setup.ppa. file.
  4. In the Macro Warning message box, click Enable Macros.
  5. When a message appears telling you that PowerPoint is installing the additional content templates, click OK.
The templates will appear in the Presentations and Presentation Designs tabs in the New Presentation dialog box (on the File menu, click New). In addition, when you run the AutoContent Wizard, the templates from the \ValuPack\Templates\Present folder are available.
