OL97: Southern Hemisphere Time Zone Appointments Off One Hour (168626)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 97, if you change the Time Zone to one in the Southern Hemisphere, such as "(GMT+10)Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney," the resulting time displayed is off by one hour.

CAUSE

Southern Hemisphere time zones do not properly adjust for daylight savings time.

RESOLUTION

Choose another time zone in the Northern Hemisphere with the same GMT+ factor. For Australia, use "(GMT+10)Guam, Port Moresby, Vladivostok."

STATUS

This issue is fixed in Outlook, version 8.01.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Calendar tab, click Time Zone.
  3. In the Current time zone list, click (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time.
  4. Click to select, "Adjust for daylight savings time."
  5. Click "Show an additional time zone" and on the Time zone list, click (GMT+10)Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney.
  6. Click to select, "Adjust for daylight savings time."
  7. Click OK and OK.
RESULT: The Australian time is off by one hour, depending on the time of year.
