Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. Open a mailbox to which you have access privileges.
2. Open a folder to which you have delete privileges.
3. Delete an item.

RESULT: the deleted item goes into your Deleted Items folder, rather than that of the mailbox owner. This is true even if you have full rights to the other user's Deleted Items folder.

Steps to Switch the Destination of Deleted Items

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat) before you edit the registry.

To change the registry setting:

1. On Outlook's File menu, click "Exit and Log Off."
2. Click Start on the Windows Taskbar, and click Run.
3. In the Open window type REGEDIT and click OK.
4. Move to the following entry in the registry:

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Outlook\Options\General
   						

5. Right-click on the DelegateWastebasketStyle key and click Modify. If the Key is not present, see NOTE below.
6. Change the Value data in the "Edit DWORD Value" dialog box to one of the following values:
   • 8 (stores deleted items in your folder)
   • 4 (stores deleted items in the mailbox owner's folder)
7. Exit the Registry Editor.
8. Restart Outlook.

NOTE: If the DelegateWastebasketStyle key is not present, create it as follows:

1. Right-click on the General folder in the path defined in step 4 above.
2. On the shortcut menu, point to New and click DWORD Value.
3. Type DelegateWastebasketStyle as the name for the new key and press Enter.
4. Return to step 5 above.
