SUMMARY

When using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97(IMEP), you can set an interval for Outlook to check for new messages. To force a change to this setting to take effect immediately, you must manually check for new mail the first time by pressing the F5 key.

To set an interval for Outlook to check for new messages, use the following steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, select Options.
  2. Click the Internet E-mail tab. If you do not have an Internet E-mail tab, you may not have the IMEP installed on your computer.
  3. Click to select the "Check for new messages every X minute(s)" (where X is the interval to use.
  4. Enter the number of minutes for Outlook to periodically check for new messages and click OK.
For this change to take effect immediately, you must manually check for new mail by pressing F5. If you do not manually check for new mail, Outlook will wait the previous interval before the new setting takes effect. If you are using this feature for the first time, Outlook will wait the default interval of 15 minutes before the new setting takes effect.
