TMGR Err Msg: Invalid Mail Option When Opening Mail (167978)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Team Manager may display the following error when attempting to open a message sent from a Microsoft Exchange Server:
"There was a problem opening this message.

You may be using a mail program that differs from the one you chose during setup."

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

To workaround this behavior, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, then Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double click the icon with the title "Mail" or "Mail and Fax".
  3. Click on the Show Profiles button.
  4. Click on the Outlook or Exchange profile listed.
  5. Click on the Properties button.
  6. Note each of the properties selected for the profile.
  7. Click the Cancel button.
  8. Delete the Outlook or Exchange profile.
  9. Click the Add button.
  10. Select the options to match what you noted in step 6.
  11. Click the profile you created.
  12. Click the Properties button, verify all settings match what you noted in step 6.
  13. Close the Mail or Mail and Fax dialog.
