Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

SUMMARY

This article describes how to remove a typical, single-user installation of Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0 from your hard disk. Note that this article applies to Microsoft Access as a stand-alone product, and not as part of the Microsoft Office Professional for Windows 95 suite.

MORE INFORMATION

Before you uninstall the program, back up any databases (*.mdb or *.mda) that you created in Microsoft Access 7.0. If you implemented any security in your Microsoft Access 7.0 database, be sure to back up the System.mdw or other workgroup information files as well.

Uninstalling Microsoft Access 7.0

  1. Run the Setup program to remove Microsoft Access 7.0.

For Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0:

    1. Click the Start button on the Taskbar, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
    3. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, select Microsoft Access 7.0, and then click Add/Remove.
    4. In the Installation Maintenance dialog box, click Remove All. Confirm that you want to remove the program.
For Microsoft Windows NT version 3.51:

    1. Double-click the Microsoft Access program group in Program Manager.
    2. Double-click the Microsoft Access Setup icon.
    3. In the Installation Maintenance dialog box, click Remove All. Confirm that you want to remove the program.
Follow the instructions on your screen to remove all of Microsoft Access 7.0.
  2. After Setup removes Microsoft Access 7.0, some files may remain on your computer. This occurs because the Setup program does not remove files that may be used by other applications. To remove Microsoft Access 7.0 completely from your computer, you must manually delete the remaining files. But before you begin this process, consider the following information:

    • If you remove any files that are being used by other applications -- Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Visual Basic, or Microsoft Visual C++, for example -- those applications may not work correctly.
    • Depending on the type of installation you performed when you ran Setup for Microsoft Access 7.0 (Typical, Compact, Custom, Run from CD-ROM), some of the files listed below may not be on your hard disk.
    • In Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT version 4.0, you may not be able to see all of the files listed until you perform these steps:

      1. Open My Computer or start Windows Explorer.
      2. On the View menu, click Options.
      3. Click the View tab.
      4. Click Show All Files, and click to clear the "Hide MS-DOS file extensions for all file types that are registered" check box. Click OK.
Following is a list of files that may remain on your hard drive after you run Setup to remove Microsoft Access 7.0. File names that are preceded with an asterisk (*) may be required by one or more of the following products:
Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 95, version 7.0

Consider carefully whether to delete them.
