SYMPTOMS

When you try to drag new commands onto the default Custom shortcut menu on the Shortcut Menus toolbar, the action fails. However, if you perform the same action on any of the built-in toolbars, it works.

CAUSE

You cannot add commands to the default Custom shortcut menu on the Shortcut Menus toolbar. You can only add commands to a custom shortcut menu that you create and add to the default Custom shortcut menu.

RESOLUTION

First, create a new custom shortcut menu and add it to the default Custom shortcut menu on the Shortcut Menus toolbar. Then, add the commands that you want to appear on the newly created custom shortcut menu. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open the database for which you want to add a new custom shortcut menu.
  2. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize.
  3. On the Toolbars tab, click New and type MyShortCut in the Toolbar Name box. Click OK.
  4. On the Toolbars tab, click Properties.
  5. With MyShortCut showing in the Selected Toolbar box, select Popup in the Type box. Click OK in the informational message box. In the Toolbar Properties box, click Close.
  6. In the Toolbars box, click to select the Shortcut Menus check box. On the Shortcut Menus toolbar, click Custom, and then click MyShortCut.
  7. Click the Commands tab in the Customize dialog box, and drag the commands that you want to appear on the MyShortCut shortcut menu from the Commands box.
