WD97: "Reset My Tips" Doesn't Work as Expected (167368)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Reset My Tips, previous tips are not displayed.

To locate the Reset My Tips button:
  1. Right-click the Office Assistant.

    NOTE: If the Office Assistant is not visible, click the Office Assistant toolbar button.
  2. On the shortcut menu, click Options.
  3. On the Options tab, click Reset My Tips, and then click OK.

CAUSE

Word will not reset the tips during the current Word session.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, click the Reset My Tips button, and then quit and restart Word.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem has been corrected in Word 2000.

The Office Assistant can answer your questions, offer tips, and provide help for a variety of features specific to the Office program you are in. Tips point out how to use the features or keyboard shortcuts in the program more effectively.

A tip is available when a yellow light bulb appears in the Assistant. To see the tip, click the light bulb. If the Assistant is not visible when a tip arrives, the Office Assistant button displays a light bulb. Click the Office Assistant button to display the Assistant, and then click the light bulb to display the tip.

Tips are displayed only once, unless you click the Reset My Tips button. When you click this button and restart Word, all tips will be available for viewing when Word detects that you may need help accomplishing a certain task.
