XL97: Shadows and 3-D Effects Fail to Print Across Page Breaks (167276)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q167276

SYMPTOMS

When you print or view a worksheet in print preview in Microsoft Excel 97, shadows and 3-D effects that are attached to drawing objects or AutoShapes in the worksheet may not be printed completely.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if a shadow or 3-D effect extends across a page break in the worksheet. In Microsoft Excel 97, shadows and 3-D effects are printed on the same page with the drawing object or AutoShape to which they are attached. These shadows and 3-D effects are printed only on the page or pages that contain the object or AutoShape; they are printed up to the page break for the page that contains the object or AutoShape.

If the drawing object extends across a page break, its shadow or 3-D effect is printed correctly only in the pages occupied by the drawing object.

RESOLUTION

To ensure that shadows and 3-D effects attached to drawing objects and AutoShapes are printed completely, make sure that shadows and 3-D effects do not extend across page breaks.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel 97, you can attach a shadow to a drawing object or an AutoShape by following these steps:

  1. Select the drawing object or AutoShape.
  2. On the Drawing toolbar, click the Shadow tool.
  3. On the shortcut menu that appears, click a shadow style or click No Shadow to remove the existing shadow.

You can also click Shadow Settings to display or hide the Shadow Settings toolbar.
To attach a 3-D effect to a drawing object, follow these steps:

  1. Select the drawing object or AutoShape.
  2. On the Drawing toolbar, click the 3-D tool.
  3. On the shortcut menu, click a 3-D effect or click No 3-D to remove the existing 3-D effect.

You can also click 3-D Settings to display or hide the 3-D Settings toolbar.
Shadows and 3-D effects are mutually exclusive; you cannot apply both to the same drawing object or AutoShape.
