OL97: Spelling Check Does Not Ignore Original Message Text (167143)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 97

This article was previously published under Q167143

SYMPTOMS

If you use the spelling checker to reply to an e-mail message when using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP) and you have Reply Ticking selected, the spelling check will include the original message text even if you select the option "Ignore original message text in reply or forward."

RESOLUTION

If you do not want the spelling check to include the text of the original message, do not turn on Reply Ticking.

MORE INFORMATION

The Internet Mail service, provided by IMEP, allows you to mark original text in an e-mail reply with a special character. This character precedes each line of original text and is usually a greater than sign, a colon, or a vertical line (>, :, |). Reply Ticking, or Ticks is the name commonly used for this reply convention. The Internet Mail service design allows you to turn on Reply Ticking in e-mail messages.

Follow these steps to turn on Reply Ticking for e-mail messages:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Internet E-mail tab.

NOTE: If you do not have an Internet E-mail tab, you did not install the Internet Mail service from the Internet Mail Enhancement Pack. The Internet Mail Enhancement Pack is available on the Microsoft Internet site at:
  3. In "E-mail reply format", click to select "When replying to messages, indent original text with" and from the list click to select the desired character.
To set Spelling Options in Outlook, do the following:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Spelling tab. Click to select your choices.
  3. Click OK.
NOTE: Because the Microsoft Web site is regularly updated, the site address may change without notice. If this occurs, link to the Microsoft home page at the following address: http://www.microsoft.com/
