OL97: Internet Mail Reply Does not Add Angle Bracket (167142)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Outlook 97
- Microsoft Word 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q167142 SYMPTOMS
When you reply to an e-mail message using the Internet Mail Enhancement
Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP) with Microsoft Word 97 set as the e-
mail editor (WordMail) and Reply Ticking on, the original text is not
marked with angle brackets (>).
CAUSE
The AutoFormat feature in WordMail replaces the angle brackets (>) with a
paragraph indent when the message is opened. Outlook cannot override
WordMail's AutoFormat feature.
MORE INFORMATION
The Internet Mail service, provided by the IMEP, allows you to mark
original text in an e-mail reply with a special character. This character
precedes each line of original text and is usually a greater than sign, a
colon, or a vertical line (>, :, |). "Reply Ticking" or "Ticks" is the name
commonly used for this reply convention.
