SYMPTOMS

Reply characters do not work with task requests if you are using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97(IMEP).

MORE INFORMATION

The Internet Mail service, provided by the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch, allows you to mark original text in an e-mail reply with a special character. This character precedes each line of original text and is usually a greater than sign, a colon or a vertical line (>, :, |). "Reply Ticking" and "Ticks" are the names commonly used for this reply convention.

The Internet Mail service allows you to turn on Reply Ticking in e-mail messages. This feature is not available for replies to task requests.

Follow these steps to turn on reply characters for e-mail messages:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Internet E-mail tab.

NOTE: If you do not have an Internet E-mail tab, you did not install the Internet Mail service from the IMEP. Without the IMEP you cannot use reply characters.
  3. In "E-mail reply format", click to select "When replying to messages, indent original text with" and from the list click to select the desired character.
  4. Click OK to accept your settings.
