SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.0, you cannot view Internet Explorer version 3.x cache files from the Advanced tab in the Options dialog box, even though these files are on your hard disk.

CAUSE

Internet Explorer 4.0 does not upgrade cache files from previous versions of Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

To view the Internet Explorer 3.x cache files, follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall Internet Explorer 4.0.
  2. In Internet Explorer 3.x, empty the Temporary Internet Files folder, and then quit Internet Explorer. To empty the Temporary Internet Files folder, follow these steps:
    1. In Internet Explorer 3.x, click Options on the View menu.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click Empty Folder.
    5. When you are prompted whether to delete all the files in the Temporary Internet Files folder, click Yes.
    6. Click OK, and then click OK.
  3. Reinstall Internet Explorer 4.0.
