Inserting PC Card Causes Handheld PC to Shut Down (166689)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows CE Operating System, Versions 1.0
This article was previously published under Q166689 SYMPTOMS
If you insert a PC Card in the PC Card socket of your Handheld PC (H/PC)
while the H/PC is running on battery power, the H/PC may shut down. This
behavior may occur even when the Power tool in Control Panel indicates
that the batteries are "Good" or have a high percentage of battery life
remaining.
NOTE: The battery status may be displayed in a different format depending
on the model and manufacturer of your H/PC.
CAUSE
The initial power-use spike caused by the insertion of a PC Card may cause
an emergency shutdown of the H/PC due to a lack of available power for the
overall system.
RESOLUTION
To avoid this problem, use the AC adapter or fresh batteries to power your
H/PC. If the problem persists, use the AC adapter.
