SYMPTOMS

The shortcuts to H/PC Explorer on your desktop computer may use generic icons. When you double-click an H/PC Explorer shortcut, you may receive the following error message:
The item 'hpcexpl.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved. The nearest match, based on size, date, and type is 'C:\PROGRA~1\HPCEXP~1\PocketIE Setup\setup.exe'. Do you want this shortcut to point to this item?

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you run the Setup program for H/PC Explorer version 1.0 and both of the following conditions occur during the installation:
  • You click the H/PC Explorer check box in the Select Components dialog box to clear it.
  • You click to select one or more of the check boxes in the Create Shortcuts dialog box, so that the H/PC Explorer Setup program creates shortcuts to H/PC Explorer on your desktop computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, run the H/PC Explorer Setup program again and choose to install the H/PC Explorer component during setup.

MORE INFORMATION

This is problem is corrected in H/PC Explorer version 1.1. The H/PC Explorer version 1.1 Setup returns you to the Select Components dialog box if you do not select the H/PC Explorer component during installation. The Casio, Compaq, and NEC H/PCs include H/PC Explorer version 1.0, which does not include this fix.
