The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft IntelliPoint software 2.0

This article was previously published under Q166301

SYMPTOMS

After you enable the SmartSpeed feature in the Microsoft IntelliPoint software version 2.0, the mouse pointer may not slow when moved over some objects and controls.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft IntelliPoint software version 2.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

The IntelliPoint Feature Summary topic in the IntelliPoint Online User's Guide includes the following description of the SmartSpeed feature:

The SmartSpeed feature, located on the StepSavers tab, slows down the pointer as you move over icons, buttons, title bars, borders, scroll bars, and other controls, making them easier to select.

However, in some cases, the SmartSpeed feature does not cause the pointer to slow down when passed over the objects and controls described above. For example, if you move the pointer over an icon located on the desktop while the SmartSpeed feature is enabled, the pointer slows down while moving over the icon. If you open Control Panel, and then move the pointer over an icon in Control Panel, the pointer does not slow down when moved over the icon.
