SUMMARY

The purpose of this article is to give an overview of the process that Microsoft Money uses to match downloaded transactions with entries in the Account Register in accounts enabled for Online Banking. After you download statements and read them, Money matches the downloaded transactions with transactions already entered in your Account Register.

MORE INFORMATION

Money matches bank and credit card transactions one by one. Money looks for a matching transaction in the Account Register. It searches the entire account within the date range specified in Options.

Note The default date range is for the last 60 days. You can change this default on the Online Services tab in Options on the Tools menu. Change the number in "Look For Matching Transactions Within A <number> Day Range."

If Money finds a guaranteed match in the specified date range, it groups them together and presents a list of already-matched transactions. Money defines a "guaranteed match" as when the check number and amount match and the transaction was not previously downloaded.

If Money finds any matching transactions that are possible, but not guaranteed matches, Money gives them a priority and presents them to you in priority order until you select the correct match. Money then merges the transactions in your Account Register and marks it with an E in the Cleared field.

Note If your Options are set to not view transactions during the matching process, Money selects the highest priority match and merges this transaction.

If Money does not find a matching transaction, Money enters it in the Account Register as a new transaction, with all of the information available for that transaction. Money marks this new transaction with an E in the Cleared field.
