FIX: Moving Files into Long DBCS Paths Crashes IIS/VID Client (166104)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visual InterDev 1.0
This article was previously published under Q166104 SYMPTOMS
When you drag a file from the root directory into a long Double Byte
Character String (DBCS) named folder over 100 characters, the local machine
and the Web Server hang.
CAUSE
Visual InterDev makes the call to FrontPage Client portion to make the
move, and then the client waits for completion. However, IIS/FP hangs so
the completion event never occurs.
RESOLUTION
Use shorter folder/file names. Moving files around extremely long paths
(>100 characters) causes this problem. If at all possible, shorten the path
depth, or shorten the folder/file names.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article. This bug has been fixed in Visual
InterDev 6.0.
