This article was previously published under Q165986 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to run the Slide Show by clicking Share It! and then Slide
Show, you may receive the following error:
Unable To Start Slide Show Task
Please try reinstalling Picture It!
CAUSE
The slide show task uses the JPEG filter to export the small JPEGs that are
used in the slide show .psf file. If the filter is missing, corrupted or
the wrong version you will get this error.
RESOLUTION
Reinstall the JPEG filter by doing the following.
In Windows 95/98 or Windows NT:- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove programs, and then remove the program.
- On the Windows Start menu, point to Find, and then click Files and Folders.
- In the Named field, type Jpegim32.flt
- For the Look In field, select Local Hard Drives from the list.
- Click Find Now.
- In the Search Results pane, right click the Jpegim32.flt file, and click Rename.
- Rename the file to Jpegim32.OLD.
- Rename all the filters used by Microsoft Picture It! by repeating steps five and six and changing the file ending to .OLD
NOTE: The filters to rename are:
Gifimp32.flt
FPX32.flt
PCXimp32.flt
PNG32.flt

- Repeat steps five and six for a file named setup.stf, renaming this file to setup.old. This file is located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Picture It!\Setup folder.
- Insert the Picture It! compact disc, and run Setup.
This ensures that the filters are reinstalled in the correct location and the system registry is updated.

MORE INFORMATION
Graphics filters are shared components, more than one application uses
them, so Setup does not remove them when you uninstall Picture It!. That's
why a simple Remove All and Reinstall will not correct this problem.
The procedure above uses the Setup program to copy and register the file.
Sometimes copying a new graphics filter from the Compact Disc will not fix
the problem because you may copy it to the wrong folder, or the Windows
registry may not be aware that the file is there.
If you found more than one JPEG filter on your computer the programs that
use the other filter will probably function with the filter Picture It!
installs. If not, you can rename the other filter to its original name.
NOTE: Picture It! uses the filter in the \Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt folder.
