PRB: ODBC Version Conflict Messages Launching Visual InterDev (165869)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Visual InterDev 1.0
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.5
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.6
This article was previously published under Q165869 SYMPTOMS
When launching Visual InterDev, an error message can occur stating that
there is a version conflict between two or more ODBC system files.
CAUSE
Installing Peer Web Services on Windows NT Workstation 4.0 will always overwrite the ODBC files Odbcint.dll and Odbccp32.dll with version 2.50.30.6 of these files even if the files that already exist are more recent. If Visual InterDev is installed first, some of the ODBC files will be the version that shipped with Visual InterDev and some will get overwritten with older versions by the Peer Web Services install.
This behavior causes the version conflict message.
RESOLUTION
To get the ODBC files back in sync, remove Visual InterDev through the
Control Panel Add/Remove Programs applet and then reinstall.
To avoid this problem altogether, install Peer Web Services before Visual
InterDev. Or, you can install the latest version of MDAC.
STATUS
This problem has been resolved in Visual InterDev 6.0.
