This article was previously published under Q165832

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Internet Information Server will hang when a client is accessing an Active Server Page (ASP) that has an Access Database query that includes a linked SQL Server Table.

CAUSE

This problem occurs due to a bug in Jet Engine version 3.5.

STATUS

This problem was addressed in Visual InterDev 6.0, which supplies an updated Access ODBC driver. It is recommended--but not required--that this driver be used with Internet Information Server version 4.0, which is also included in the Visual InterDev package.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Create an Access Database with a link to SQL Server Table.
  2. Create a Query in the Access database that includes the linked Table.
  3. In Visual InterDev, create a data connection to the Access database.
  4. Start the Data Form Wizard.
  5. Select the Connection for the Access Database.
  6. Select View.
  7. Select the Query from step 2.
  8. Finish the Wizard using the defaults provided.
  9. Preview <your form>.asp in IE, then close IE and Preview <your form>.asp again. The result will be that the Web Server hangs and must be restarted manually.
