SUMMARY

This article describes how to find your "My Money.MNY" Microsoft Money data file by using Microsoft Windows Search.

MORE INFORMATION

All versions of Money use a three-letter extension of .MNY for the MS-DOS file name of the data file, for example, "My Money.MNY".

You can use Microsoft Windows Explorer or Microsoft Windows File Manager to search for all files that have names that end with a particular extension, such as .MNY.

The steps that are required to locate a Money data file depend on the version of Microsoft Windows that you are using.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP

  1. Verify that your view options are set to show file name extensions. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open My Computer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. Click to clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
    5. Click to select the Show hidden files and folders check box.
    6. Click OK.
  2. Click Start, and then click Search.
  3. In the Named box, type *.mny to find a Money data file. To find a converted Money data file, in the Named box, type the file name that is appropriate for the version of Money that you are using:
    • In Microsoft Money 98, type *.m06.
    • In Microsoft Money 99, type *.m07.
    • In Microsoft Money 2000, type *.m08.

    • In Microsoft Money 2002, type *.m10.
    • In Microsoft Money 2003, type *.m11.
    • In Microsoft Money 2004, type *.m12.
    • In Microsoft Money 2005, type *.m14.
  4. In the Look In box, click My Computer
  5. Click Search.
This should give you a list of Money data files. At this point, you can double-click the file that you want to open in Money. You can also delete or rename the file.
