The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Transaction Server 1.0

This article was previously published under Q164915

SUMMARY

The Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator(DTC) must be running on the node that a Microsoft Transaction Server component is running on if the component is marked "Requires a transaction" or "Requires a new transaction".

The Microsoft Transaction Server uses the Distributed Transaction Coordinator to provide transaction support, both distributed and not. If the Distributed Transaction Coordinator is unavailable, transactions can not be used and you will receive an OLE automation error, -2147164153(8004e007).

Non transactional components do not require the Distributed Transaction Coordinator.
