PPT97: Unable to Link to PowerPoint Add-In (.ppa) (164832)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to link to a PowerPoint add-in file (*.ppa) you receive the following error message:
It is not possible to create a link to <Path to the .ppa>

CAUSE

PowerPoint does not support linking to .ppa files.

RESOLUTION

Instead of linking to the add-in, embed the add-in file into your presentation, using these steps:
  1. On the Insert menu, click Object.
  2. Click to select the Create From File option.
  3. Click Browse.
  4. Select the .ppa file you want to embed in your presentation and then click OK.
  5. Click OK.
The .ppa file is now embedded in your PowerPoint presentation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
