Msdlc32 Cannot Bind to Dial-Up Adapter (164427)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Microsoft Windows 95

This article was previously published under Q164427

SUMMARY

When you run Msdlc32.exe and add the Data Link Control (DLC) protocol in Network properties, the DLC protocol is bound to the Dial-Up Adapter (if it is installed). When you restart the computer, the DLC protocol is no longer bound to the Dial-Up Adapter.

MORE INFORMATION

When you install a protocol, the protocol attempts to bind to all network adapters, including the Dial-Up Adapter, and the initial binding appears. However, Msdlc32 does not bind to the Dial-Up Adapter because there is no client support for Msdlc32 included with Windows. The DLC protocol requires third-party products in order to be used.
