PUB: Basic Options Dialog Box Appears When Importing CGM Files (164302)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 97
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows 3.0
This article was previously published under Q164302 SYMPTOMS
When you import a Computer Graphics Metafile (CGM) picture into
Microsoft Publisher, the Basic Options dialog box appears. If you
click OK, the picture imports correctly.
This dialog box also appears when you click Picture on the Insert menu
and then select a .cgm file from the list of available pictures. This
dialog box is displayed when the Preview option is selected in the
Insert Picture dialog box.
CAUSE
This behavior appears after you install Microsoft Media Manager.
Microsoft Media Manager is one of the components in Microsoft Internet
Studio.
Media Manager installs the same version of the CGM graphic import
filter (Cgmimp32.flt) that Microsoft Publisher 97 does, but it changes
the settings of that filter. When you install Publisher 97, the CGM
filter is configured to show this dialog box when a program
specifically asks it to. After you install Media Manager, the CGM
filter displays the dialog box every time you import a .cgm file.
RESOLUTION
If you do not want the Basic Options dialog box to appear each time
you insert or preview a .cgm file, reset the CGM import filter using
these steps:
- In Publisher, click Picture on the Insert menu.
- Select any .cgm file, and then click Open.
- In the Basic Options dialog box, click Dialogs.
- In the Option Dialog list, click Requested.
- Click OK.
Now the Basic Options dialog box only appears when a particular
program asks it to.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in
Microsoft Publisher 98.
