PRJ4: Converted Project Summary Notes Appear with Bar Characters (163232)

SYMPTOMS

When you enter notes at the Summary Task level in a Microsoft Project 4.0 file and then open the file in Microsoft Project 4.1, the notes appear as a continuous string separated by vertical bar (|) characters instead of carriage returns.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you enter notes at the Summary Task level and the notes are in list format.

WORKAROUND

Method 1: Delete the vertical bar characters and add paragraph returns

To correct the notes, position the insertion point before the vertical bar, delete it, and then press ENTER. The text after the insertion point moves to the next line. Repeat this process until you have removed all of the vertical bars.

Method 2: Use the Copy and Paste commands to restore the list format

  1. Select the notes.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
  3. Start Microsoft Word.
  4. In the default document, click Paste on the Edit menu.

    The text is pasted without the vertical bars.
  5. Select the text, and then click Copy on the Edit menu.
  6. Switch to Microsoft Project.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
