SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Office 97 Setup program, you may receive the following error message:
Bdrintl.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You have performed an administrative installation (setup /a) of Microsoft Office 97 to a Banyan Vines server.

    -and-

  • You are attempting to perform a Run From Server installation of Microsoft Office 97 from the Banyan Vines server to a workstation running Microsoft Windows NT, version 3.51 or 4.0.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has developed a software patch specifically designed to correct this problem. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

After you have downloaded the patch, follow these steps:
  1. Move the Banfix.exe file to your Windows\Desktop folder and double-click it to extract the files it contains.
  2. After the files have been extracted, select the following files on your desktop, and right-click any one of them:
          Acmsetup.exe
          Mssetup.dll
          Setup.exe
    						
    On the shortcut menu, click Copy.
  3. In Windows Explorer, go to the folder on the Banyan Vines server that contains the administrative installation of Microsoft Office 97. (This is usually the MSOffice folder.) Then, on the Edit menu, click Paste. Click Yes To All when you are prompted to replace the existing files.
When the three files have been replaced, you should be able to run Microsoft Office 97 Setup without error.
