ActiveX Plug-In Not Required for Internet Explorer 3.0 for Mac (162799)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 for Macintosh
This article was previously published under Q162799 SUMMARY
Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Macintosh includes native support for
ActiveX. To access ActiveX content using Internet Explorer 3.0, you do not
need to use the ActiveX plug-in that is included with Internet Explorer.
MORE INFORMATION
When you install Internet Explorer 3.0, an ActiveX plug-in is copied to
the "Microsoft Internet Applications:Internet Explorer 3.0 Folder:ActiveX
Plugin" folder. This ActiveX plug-in is not required to access ActiveX
content using Internet Explorer 3.0. It should only be used if you are
using a previous version of Internet Explorer for Macintosh, or if you are
using a third-party Internet browser that supports plug-ins, but does not
include native support for ActiveX.
NOTE: Unlike Java programs, the integrity of ActiveX content is not
verified in Internet Explorer 3.0. Therefore, you should only access
ActiveX content that you are sure is not harmful.
