Open Transport Recommended on PowerMacintosh Computers (162707)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 for Macintosh
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.1 for Macintosh
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 for Macintosh
This article was previously published under Q162707 SUMMARY
Microsoft recommends using the Open Transport Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) version 1.1.1 or later when you are
running Microsoft Internet Explorer for Macintosh on a Power Macintosh or
PCI Power Macintosh computer. You may be unable to run Internet Explorer
reliably on a Power Macintosh computer if you are using the MacTCP instead
of Open Transport.
MORE INFORMATION
MacTCP is an older version of TCP/IP that is designed for earlier
Macintosh computers. MacTCP does not run on PCI Power Macintosh computers
and may not run properly on Power Macintosh computers. Because Open
Transport is specifically designed for Power Macintosh computers, Apple
recommends using Open Transport version 1.1.1 or later with Power
Macintosh and PCI Power Macintosh computers instead of MacTCP.
Because MacTCP may not run properly or at all on Power Macintosh and PCI
Power Macintosh computers, we recommend using Open Transport instead of
MacTCP if you are running Internet Explorer on a Power Macintosh or PCI
Power Macintosh computer.
