XFOR: INS May GPF When It Receives an Article with a Large Header (162580)

SYMPTOMS

When the Internet News Server (INS) receives news feeds with large headers, a general protection fault (GPF) may occur. Although not specifically indicated, the estimated header size is 4 KB.

RESOLUTION

A code bug in Nntpsvc.dll causes this problem. To resolve this problem, upgrade the INS servers with Service Pack 1 for MCIS v1.0. This will update the Nntpsvc.dll file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0.
