WD: Message Missing from Insert Menu Using WordMail and Exchange (162037)

SYMPTOMS

When you use WordMail for your e-mail editor, the Message menu selection is missing from the Insert menu.

CAUSE

The WordMail.DLL does not support the Message functionality of Microsoft Exchange.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
  • If you are using WordMail, you can drag an existing mail message into a new mail message. -or-

  • Disable WordMail. The Message menu selection on the Insert menu will be available to you when you create a Microsoft Exchange mail message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

To insert an item from a Microsoft Exchange folder into a message:

NOTE: WordMail must be disabled to use this procedure.
  1. Position the insertion point where you want to insert the item.
  2. On the Insert menu, click Message.
  3. In the Insert As box, specify how you want to insert the item:

    • To insert the item as text, select Text Only.
    • To insert the item as an application icon, select An Attachment.
    • To link the attachment, select Link Attachment To Original Item.
    If you link an item in a folder to an attachment in a message, the folder must be accessible to recipients, for example, in a public folder.
  4. In the Location box, click the folder where the item is located.
  5. In the Items box, do one of the following to insert the item:

    • Select the item you want to insert, and then choose OK. -or-

    • Double-click the item.
You can also insert an item from a Microsoft Exchange folder into a message by dragging the item from the folder to the message.

To enable or disable WordMail:
  1. Start Microsoft Exchange.
  2. On the Compose menu, click WordMail Options.
  3. Select or clear the "Enable Word as e-mail editor" check box as desired.
