XCON: MTA: Address Space Replication with LOCAL Address Spaces (161947)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 4.0
This article was previously published under Q161947 SYMPTOMS
The MTA routes messages to sites that cannot directly handle these
messages, and must route them back to the original site to be rerouted.
Also, in the case of multiple Internet Mail Connectors (IMCs) in different
sites, the MTA routes messages to a different site to be handled by that
IMC, instead of routing it to the local IMC in its own site.
CAUSE
This problem is caused by the replication of address spaces to other sites.
Once these addresses have been replicated, each site knows all the routes
that another site can take to deliver a message.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Server
version 4.0.
This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Exchange 4.0 U.S.
Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the
