TMGR: Baseline Times Vary with Different Setting Methods (161548)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Team Manager

This article was previously published under Q161548

SYMPTOMS

You are showing times with your dates and, depending on your method for setting baseline information for tasks, the default start and end times are different.

CAUSE

Microsoft Team Manager makes different assumptions, depending on whether you directly enter baseline dates for tasks or use the Set Baseline tool on the Tools menu.

NOTE: To display times with dates, click Options on the Tools menu, click the General tab, and then click to select the "Show time of day in date fields" check box.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Team Manager uses the following criteria to determine the time added to baseline dates.

Using Set Baseline Tool

  • The start and finish times are the earliest and latest times for the task (if no people assigned) or the people assignment dates.

Directly Entering Baseline Dates

  • If you enter baseline dates without times in a view such as the Task Organizer, tasks and people assignments get start times of 12:00 AM and finish times of 11:59 PM.
  • If a baseline date already exists and you are changing only the date, the existing time is used. For example, if a task has a baseline start of 11/15/96 3:00 AM and you change the date to 11/16/96, the time is still 3:00 AM.
