PPT97: Pack and Go: Error in Help Topic (160845)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q160845

SUMMARY

When you search the PowerPoint Help Index under "Pack up a presentation for use on another computer", the "TIP" erroneously states that if you include the Viewer that comes with PowerPoint 97 on the disk, you'll get full support for new PowerPoint features.

MORE INFORMATION

When you run Pack And Go, the file is saved as a PowerPoint 95 and 97 presentation so that it can be viewed with the PowerPoint 95 Viewer (the Viewer that ships with PowerPoint 97). Any effect which is not supported (available) in PowerPoint 95 will not be available when you unpack your presentation.

NOTE: This problem is corrected if you obtain and install Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 97. PowerPoint Viewer 97 supports all PowerPoint 97 features (except for macros.)

If you are preparing a file for use on another computer that does not have PowerPoint installed, follow these steps:
  1. Create the file as usual.
  2. On the File menu, click Pack And Go.
  3. Follow the instructions in the Pack And Go Wizard. When asked, choose to include the PowerPoint Viewer.
