OL97: Exchange Preview Pane Extension Not Available in Outlook (160728)

SUMMARY

The Preview Pane extension available in Microsoft Exchange Client is not available in Microsoft Outlook 97. Instead, Outlook uses a similar feature called AutoPreview.

Outlook uses a feature called AutoPreview, which shows the first 255 characters of any MAPI message. The Preview Pane Extension differs by opening the entire MAPI message, which sometimes results in performance degradation (depending on the message's location). Because the AutoPreview feature in Outlook is limited to 255 characters, it is faster and more efficient than the Preview Pane Extension.

To use the AutoPreview feature in Outlook:

On the View menu, click AutoPreview.

On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Messages with AutoPreview.
