PUB: Fonts Installed to System Folder on Windows NT 4.0 (160696)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher 97, when used with:
- the operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
This article was previously published under Q160696 SYMPTOMS
When you install Microsoft Publisher on a computer running Microsoft Windows NT
Workstation, version 4.0, the Setup program copies all the TrueType
font files to the following folder:
C:\WinNT\System
Ideally under Windows NT 4.0, setup programs should copy font files to
this folder instead:
C:\WinNT\Fonts
CAUSE
The Publisher Setup program determines whether you are running Windows
95 or Windows NT. It does not determine whether you have version 3.51
or version 4.0 of Windows NT. If Setup determines you have Windows NT,
it always copies the font files to the \System folder, because this is
where they should go under Windows NT 3.51.
RESOLUTION
It's not a problem to have font files in the WinNT\System folder. You
can still use the fonts successfully. If you don't want the fonts to
be there, you can move them to the \Fonts folder yourself.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft
Publisher 98.
