SUMMARY

When you play The Neverhood, your computer stops responding (hangs) every time you enter the cannon. The following article gives some suggestions to help troubleshoot this problem.

NOTE: This is caused by display adapter drivers that are incompatible with the Neverhood. There are no other known causes. It is not a sound problem.

MORE INFORMATION

Follow all of the below troubleshooting steps until the problem is resolved. Try the steps in order. After each set of steps, try the Neverhood. If the problem persists, try the next set of steps.

Method 1

  1. Insert The Neverhood compact disc into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
  3. Type the following:

    D:\Setup\DirectX\Dxsetup.exe

where D: is your CD-ROM drive letter.
  4. From the DirectX setup application, click Restore Display Drivers. This restores your original display driver.

If problem continues, use the following steps to change the Graphics Acceleration to "Basic":
  1. In Control Panel, double-click System.
  2. Click the Performance tab, and then click Graphics.
  3. Note that the Hardware Acceleration slider has four settings (Full, Most, Basic, and None).
