SUMMARY

To cause a person to work at a specific allocation rate on a task, the Daily Limits & Overtime "Work at most" feature must be used. This feature is useful for scheduling tasks that use the same people simultaneously.

MORE INFORMATION

The "Work at most" feature can be applied to a specific person assigned to a specific task as follows:

  1. Using the right mouse button, click the task.
  2. On the shortcut menu, click Task Properties.
  3. In the Task dialog box, click the Scheduling tab.
  4. Click the "Daily Limits & Overtime" button.
  5. In the Daily Limits dialog box, for the desired person, click in the Daily Limit field, and select "Work at most."
  6. Enter the desired limit in the Hours Per Day field. Hours Per Day must be between .25 and 24.
The "Work at most" feature can be use to distribute a person's available hours per day among many assignments, allowing multiple tasks to be scheduled simultaneously. The Hours Per Day values that distribute the work appropriately must be determined manually. The following example illustrates the "Work at most" feature:

  1. In a new Team file, in the Workload Planner on the Tasks tab, create two tasks, T1 and T2.
  2. Click the People Tab, and add a person, P1.
  3. Click the Tasks tab. Assign person P1 to tasks T1 and T2.

NOTE Task T2 follows the finish of task T1. The scheduling engine of Microsoft Team Manager automatically moves task T2 after T1 in order to avoid work overload.
  4. Click task T1, and on the Edit menu, click Task Properties.
  5. In the Task Properties dialog box, click the Scheduling tab, and then click the "Daily Limits & Overtime" button.
  6. In the Daily Limits dialog box, for person P1, change the Daily Limit to At Most. Change the Hours Per Day to 4 hours.
  7. Repeat steps 4 - 6 for task T2.

NOTE: Tasks T1 and T2 are now scheduled simultaneously, and person P1 works four hours per day on each task.
Hours Per Day for each assignment can be set to any values needed to balance a person's time among simultaneous tasks, subject to the limits mentioned in this article.
