Money 5.0: Connecting via 800 Number Instead of 950 Number (159883)

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Money 5.0, there are two toll-free phone numbers you can use to call the CheckFree Service Center (a service provider for Home Banking).

The primary phone number in Money is 950-1288. If Money cannot connect using the primary phone number, then it would dial the secondary phone number, (800) 328-2427.

However, in January 1999, AT&T has discontinued service for the 950-1288 phone number. This article discusses how you can configure Money to use (800) 328-2427 as the primary phone number.

Microsoft has created a self-extracting file named Isc800.exe. When you run this file, you configure Money to use the (800) 328-2427 phone number in Money as the primary phone number.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file. After you download the file, double-click the Isc800.exe file to extract three files:

Isc800.reg
Isc950.reg
Readme.txt

The Readme.txt file contains instructions about how to use the registry files.

To change the default phone number for CheckFree Service Center, follow these steps:

Quit Money.
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
In the Named box, type isc800, and then click OK.
In the list of found files, double-click the Isc800.reg file. If you receive the following error message
Cannot import C:\<directory>: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error.
where <directory> is the path up to the first space in a directory name, you must move the Isc800.reg file to a folder location that does not contain spaces in it, and then double-click the file again.
Additional information: The registry editor cannot correctly parse a file's path if the path name contains spaces. You can move the file to the Desktop to work around this error message.
When you receive the Notification dialog box that says the file was successfully registered, click OK.

Money now dials CheckFree Service Center using the (800) 328-2427 phone number.
