TMGR: Zero Work Tasks Schedule Differently (159396)

SUMMARY

A successor task in an "After the Finish Of" relationship can begin immediately after the finish of the predecessor if the successor has zero work.

MORE INFORMATION

Tasks that have zero work are not scheduled according to either the team calendar or a people calendar. Therefore, task dates may look incorrect when relationships exist and zero work is scheduled. This becomes more apparent if lead or lag time is applied to the link. Consider the following example:
    Task Name Start Finish Predecessor
    -------------------------------------------------------------
1 Task1 11/6/96 8:00am 11/6/96 5:00pm
2 Task2 11/7/96 8:00am 11/7/96 5:00pm 1SS+1 Day

Task2 begins 1 day after the start of Task1; one day in this example is equivalent to 8 hours. When there is work on Task2, the team calendar pushes the start to the next available working time, that is, 8:00am the next day.

If however Task2's work is set to zero, then its start date reschedules to 11/6/96 5:00pm, that is, exactly 8 hours after the start of Task1.

NOTE: Lead and lag time is always calculated based on the team calendar and not on people calendars.
