XL97: Format not Applied on Grouped Sheet with Merge Cells (159321)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q159321 SYMPTOMS
When sheets are in group mode and data is entered in a cell and formatted,
the formatting may not be applied to merged cells on other sheets in the
group.
CAUSE
Cells that are included as component cells by merged cells on one sheet can
still be selected on other sheets. When sheets are in group mode, Microsoft
Excel will not apply formatting from component cells on one sheet to the
merged cell on another sheet unless the component cell chosen corresponds
to the upper left cell of the merged cell.
RESOLUTION
In order to have the formatting of component cells on grouped sheets apply
to the merged cell, you must apply the formatting manually.
STATUS
This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 97.
MORE INFORMATION
The merged cell's address is the upper left most cell of the range of cells
selected for the merged cell. When formatting is applied to the merged
cell's component cells on other sheets, the formatting is not applied to
the merged cell unless the cell selected on the other sheets is the upper
left most cell of the merged cell range.
