DreamWorks: DirectSound Error Using Sound Blaster Pro (159152)

SYMPTOMS

When you install The Neverhood on a computer with a SoundBlaster Pro series sound card, you receive a warning that the audio drivers are not DirectX compatible. When you attempt to launch The Neverhood, you receive the following error message:

Cannot Initialize DirectSound

CAUSE

The DreamWorks product listed at the top of this article may not run with an 8-bit sound card. However, this issue has been addressed with DirectX version 5.0 and later.

Currently the minimum system requirements for these programs include an 8-bit sound card, but recommend a 16-bit sound card.

WORKAROUND

If you have a SoundBlaster Pro sound card, update your version of DirectX.
