Money 5.0: Unable to Select Some Canadian Tax Table Items (159016)

SYMPTOMS

If you installed Money 5.0 in Windows 95, with the Regional Settings for English (Canada), Money creates a Canadian tax table for assignment to categories. In Money 5.0, you cannot select certain tax forms in the Category Details screen.

CAUSE

The tax table file shipped with Money 5.0 is named Cantax.tbl. This file is renamed Tax.tbl on installation. There are multiple entries in the Canadian tax table shipped with Money 5.0 that contain the same RNum (the number in the second column). Each entry in the table should have a unique RNum.

RESOLUTION

You can download a corrected Canadian tax table and replace the current Tax.tbl file. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file. After downloading the file, double click the Cntaxtbl.exe file. This extracts two files:
  1. Tax.tbl
  2. Readme.txt
The Readme.txt file contains information on how to use these files.

To replace the existing Canadian tax table used by Money, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Money.
  2. Click the Start button, point to Programs and then click Windows Explorer.
  3. Go to the location where you saved the Cntaxtbl.exe file.
  4. Copy the Tax.tbl file.
  5. Paste this file in the System folder in the Money folder. The default location of the Money folder is:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money

  6. When asked if you want to replace the current file, click Yes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Money version 5.0. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
