The information in this article applies to:

  • DreamWorks Interactive, The Neverhood 1.0

This article was previously published under Q159006

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to do anything at the cannon, your computer stops responding (hangs).

This occurs if you are using a Matrox Millennium display adapter and video driver.

CAUSE

You are using the Matrox Millennium display driver versions 3.14, 3.16, or 3.18.

RESOLUTION

To solve this problem, let DirectX version 3.0 update your display driver when you install The Neverhood.

NOTE: When you change your display driver to the driver supplied by DirectX, you will not be able to use the MatroxPower Desk Utility.

To let DirectX version 3.0 update your display driver, do the following:
  1. Insert The Neverhood compact disc into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
  3. Type the following:

    <drive>:\Setup\DirectX\Dxsetup.exe

where <drive> is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
  4. From the DirectX setup application, click Reinstall DirectX. This allows DirectX to update your display driver.

MORE INFORMATION

You may want to check the Matrox web site at http://www.matrox.com regularly to see if newer drivers are available.

NOTE: Most DirectX related problems have been resolved in the latest version of DirectX. Download the latest version of DirectX or, if you own a game that installs a later version of DirectX, install DirectX from the newer game's disc.

The latest version of DirectX is available at the following Microsoft Web site: For more information about how to obtain the latest version of DirectX, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
