This article was previously published under Q157910 SYMPTOMS
After you install Windows NT version 4.0 on a computer configured with a
Quantum XP-32150 SCSI hard disk connected to an Adaptec AHA-1542b SCSI
controller, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
- Slow performance during I/O operations such as hard disk reads and
writes.
- Windows NT seems to stop responding (hang) during the boot process
while the SCSI bus times out.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, disable synchronous negotiation in the BIOS on
the Adaptec SCSI host adapter. Refer to your manufacturer's documentation
for information about how to do this.
