If you press the ESC key while PowerPoint is saving AutoRecover information, PowerPoint does not halt the process. There is no way to cancel this operation before it is complete.

PowerPoint periodically saves AutoRecover information. If your computer shuts off while PowerPoint is running, PowerPoint uses the AutoRecover information to restore your presentation. While PowerPoint saves the AutoRecover information, your computer slows down.

You can control how often PowerPoint saves the AutoRecover information. You can also disable this feature entirely.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Preferences.
  2. Click the Save tab.
The Save AutoRecover Info check box enables and disables this feature. The Minutes box controls how often PowerPoint saves the AutoRecover information.
