SYMPTOMS

When the Sap Agent is removed from the list of Installed Network Software using the Control Panel Network tool, and all the registry entries are not removed properly, several symptoms may appear.
  • The Sap Agent service is missing even though the software appears in the list of Installed Network Software in the Control Panel Network tool.
  • Any service that depends on the Sap Agent will not start. If you have File and Print Services for NetWare (FPNW) installed, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Could not start File and Print Services for NetWare service on \\Computername. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.
In the Event Viewer, under Administrative Tools, listed will be the following Service Control Manager error.
Event 7001: The File and Print Service for NetWare service depends on the SAP Agent service to start because of the following error. The specified service could not start.
  • During the reinstallation of the Sap Agent in Installed Network Software, there is no prompt to copy files from the source media.

RESOLUTION

If the above symptoms appear, check to make sure both registry keys for Sap Agent have been removed before re-installing the service.
