The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q157155

SYMPTOMS

If you view a PowerPoint 97 presentation that is a section in an Office 97 Binder, some normal methods of ending a Slide Show are disabled.

If you are at the last slide in the Slide Show and click to end the show, you see this message:
End of slide show, click to advance to beginning of presentation.
If you press ESC on your keyboard to end the show, nothing happens.

RESOLUTION

To end a Slide Show if your presentation is part of a binder, you can use one of these methods:

Method 1: On the Edit menu, click Edit Slides.

Method 2: With the right mouse button, click the current slide. Click End Show on the menu that appears.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior is by design. Working with sections in an Office binder is not exactly the same as working with presentations in PowerPoint. If you want to run a PowerPoint section as a Slide Show and have it behave exactly the same as a standalone presentation, you can do the following:
  1. In Microsoft Binder, click the section you want to view as a Slide Show.
  2. On the Section menu, click View Outside. This starts PowerPoint and loads the binder section as if it were a standalone presentation file.
  3. Click the Slide Show button or click View Show on the Slide Show menu.
You can now end the slide show by any of the methods provided by PowerPoint.
