XL97: Chart Opens More Slowly than in Earlier Versions (156890)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q156890 SYMPTOMS
When you open a workbook that contains a chart, Microsoft Excel 97 may open
the workbook more slowly than earlier versions of Microsoft Excel. The
performance may be 20 percent to 50 percent slower in Microsoft Excel 97
than in earlier versions.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because a chart you create in Microsoft Excel 97 can
contain more axis labels, consequently, the chart may contain more
information and take longer to open.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
MORE INFORMATION
A chart you create in Microsoft Excel 97 can rotate label text by 45
degrees, which allows the chart to have more axis labels than a chart you
create in earlier versions of Microsoft Excel. X-axis label text is
automatically rotated by 45 degrees if Microsoft Excel determines that the
text cannot fit in the chart without being truncated.
When you open workbook with a chart that you create in an earlier version
of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Excel 97 opens the workbook more slowly
because the chart draws more information to the screen and takes more time
to fully open. For example, a column chart with four x-axis labels may
contain up to ten x-axis labels when you open it in Microsoft Excel 97.
